Minister for Health A. Pečkauskas attends the Health Systems Sustainability Conference in Brussels

Minister of Health Aurimas Pečkauskas will take part in an event organised by the European Commission and the media group Politico on 18-20 November in Brussels, Belgium, entitled "EU Health Union: a new look post-election". The Minister will discuss where the EU's health systems are heading, together with his counterparts from other countries and health policy makers.

The Minister will take part in a panel discussion on "Towards a more resilient EU health system", which will discuss post-pandemic realities and their impact on health systems, the situation of and demand for health workers, and how to ensure economic stability in the face of growing demand for health services.

"Europe's health systems are facing challenges and competing with each other - first and foremost for staff. The European Union's health systems will only be as strong and sustainable as the weakest of them. Otherwise, small countries will always remain donors. Another important point is that, as health services and treatment become more expensive, financing models need to be rethought and focus on value-adding health services. Personalised medicine offers interesting solutions here," said the Minister.

In meetings and discussions, the Minister will present Lithuania's experience in managing the pandemic and the response to it: investments in building a network of infectious disease clusters, upgrading of emergency departments, reorganisation of health centres, and public health programmes.
