After the accident in North Macedonia, Lithuania will take care of 4 citizens of this country
On the night of March 16, an accident occurred at a nightclub in North Macedonia, and the country reached out to European Union nations through the Emergency Response Coordination Centre, requesting assistance in receiving fifteen critically ill patients. Lithuania responded to this request for help and will take care of 4 patients.
"Lithuania stands with North Macedonia in the face of this tragedy: we are responding to the urgent request for help. We thank the Romanian Air Force for ensuring the transportation of the victims to Lithuania – this is a great example of the strength of European solidarity, and the mutual aid mechanism works smoothly, with countries helping each other when it's needed the most," - says Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas.
The National Crisis Management Centre, which coordinated the cooperation between countries and institutions, thanks our institutions that quickly responded to the request for help and got involved in providing assistance to the victims.
"Patients from Macedonia require urgent treatment; they are in critical condition. Our specialists will be involved to provide the necessary assistance immediately. Later, these individuals will need continued treatment, possibly additional procedures, and surgeries. All of this, without a doubt, we will provide," says Minister of Health Marija Jakubauskienė.
According to Minister of Health M. Jakubauskienė, in cooperation with hospitals, an urgent plan was created for the transportation and treatment of Macedonian victims injured in the fire. Starting from Monday morning, four ambulances were prepared to receive the injured Macedonians at the airport, transfer them from the plane, and transport them to the hospital.
On March 17, a Romanian Military Air Force aircraft will fly the patients from North Macedonia. The estimated arrival time in Lithuania is between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
The accident at the nightclub in North Macedonia occurred during a concert. At least 59 people were killed, and 155 were injured due to the fire.
